Cecelia Smith is an associate at Poling, where she focuses her practice on the defense of healthcare providers and institutions in matters involving medical negligence, wrongful death, and complex civil litigation. She brings a client-centered approach to her work, emphasizing trust, clear communication, and strategic advocacy.
Cecelia earned her Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School, graduating magna cum laude in the top 25% of her class. While at Capital, she served as a Note Editor for the Capital University Law Review, where she authored a scholarly article titled “Internet Service Providers and Censorship: A First Amendment Right or an Opportunity for Thinly-Veiled Government Moderation of Free Speech.” She was also recognized with the Barrister’s Academic Excellence Scholarship and received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Legal Analysis, Research & Writing.
Prior to joining Poling, Cecelia practiced at a Columbus-based firm, representing individuals and small businesses in employment and civil litigation matters. There, she gained valuable experience advocating in both state and federal courts and handling a broad range of complex legal issues.
Cecelia holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from The Ohio State University, where she was a Provost Scholar and earned Dean’s List honors.
She is an active member of the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys, Women Lawyers of Franklin County, and the Columbus Bar Association.
